Why should I use fibreglass components?
RV products made from fibre glass are long lasting and hard to damage. In the unfortunate event of a damage they can be easy repaired and fixed. Gel coats can be either "tinted" when the product is made or you can easy paint / spray paint fibre glass products to colour match towards your design (primer coat is often a good idea for best results).
Fibreglass products are easy to work with.
What tools do I need to fit my fibreglass parts?
You can use most tools you have on hand when working with wood. Fibreglass can be easy cut ie with jigsaws as well as filled, sanded or drilled.
TIP: Make sure to avoid a mess and avoid windy areas when sanding fibreglass.
When sanding fibreglass very fine dust will be produced and its advisable to wear old clothes and a mask.
Why are the outside compartments are not shaped like the vehicle body?
Our outside storage boxes and LPG bottle boxes are NOT shaped and countered to simulate the vehicle / van body shape!
We want to be able to offer teh compartment to various vehicle owners- so doesn't matter what brand and model you own. Also by having "flat" doors you can use the same box to either fit vertical or horizontal.
The extra deep flansh makes sure that even when you vehicle body is quite a bit contoured- you have enough material to scribe the side flanshes neatly.
The biggest advantage is that you can free decide in which height you need or want to install you compartments- no problems at all with that plan!
Are they any cons using fibreglass for RV builds?
The only "negative" part when using products made from fibreglass is that they have more weight as some other materials. So compared to ABS plastics or aluminium- they will add some more weight onto your tare weight!
That is one of the major reasons why European vans often have plastic parts ie in their showers- it is all about saving weight.
